Year 5 - Edinburgh

Welcome to Edinburgh's class page. Mr Spiers and Mrs Dorrington are working with the children in Edinburgh this year.

We have made a fantastic start to our current topic on Monarchs: exploring the life and times of Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. They have been learning about how the role of the monarchy has changed over the years from the times of the British Empire and the Commonwealth, to the current monarch celebrating her 90th Birthday. Most recently we went to visit Osborne House, which was used as a holiday home by Queen Victoria I, Albert, her husband and their many children.

We have also been on a range of trips (see pictures below):

  • Think Safe (children learning how to keep themselves safe at home and in the community)
  • Sports afternoon at Winton Community Academy
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Day at Winton Community Academy

These days have helped prepare them for Year 6 and beyond. They have particularly enjoyed the STEM Day that allowed them to gain insight into learning GCSE Design and Technology, Catering, Science and Art.

It's been a busy month but with plenty more opportunities to come this term with the school Sports Day and School Production. Both events promise to be a fantastic opportunity to showcase the children's varied talents!
