Year 6 - Arundel
Welcome to Arundel Class
On this page you will be able to find out key information about our class as well as read about and view some of the fun active learning we are doing in class. So please keep popping back to see what's new.
Arundel class is taught by Miss Tarran (Class Teacher) with the support of Mrs Stockwell (Teaching Assistant). If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to write them in your child's diary or come and talk to us at the end of the day.
Our first topic of Year 6 is all about Darwin and his amazing discoveries. We will be learning all about how animals and plants have adapted to suit their environment in different ways and learn that adaptation may lead to evolution.
We have PE on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons so please ensure your child has their full PE kit with them.
We are really impressed with all the children bringing in their reading diaries everyday and the children are enjoying sharing all the books they have read with us.
Watch this space for photos of all the exciting things we are getting up to this Autumn term.
Autumn 2 has arrived and it is a favourite among Year 6 every year. This half term we will be going on our residential trip to Calshot where we will be taking part in many activities including: skiing, rock climbing, ringos, big swing, archery and many more. Watch this space for updates and photos whilst we are away.
This half term our topic is 'Mysterious Maya'. We will be establishing the chronological timeline of the Maya and comparing it with British history. As well as this, we will be creating some Maya style art which we are very much looking forward to.
We are continuing to learn the clarinet in our Music lessons this half term. It has taken a lot of perseverance and we have used our growth mindset and as a result made great progress. We can now play various notes with not much squeaking!
In English we have started our new book- Bitter Chocolate. It is all about two boys who work on a cocoa plantation. We will be writing the ending to the story and sending them off to the author of the book.
In Maths we are focusing on fractions. We will be adding, subtracting, finding equivalent and also simplifying fractions. We have realised how much easier it is to tackle fraction problems when we are confident with our times tables.
PE will continue to be on Tuesday and Thursday and children can wear long trousers and a jumper over their purple PE t-shirt now the weather is getting colder. We are focusing on attacking and defending in football and netball and mirroring when counterbalancing in gymnastics.
