Together We Believe…in making life better for Young Carers

We have ten percent of children on roll recognised as Young Carers (YC) who currently attend Andover Young Carers (AYC) weekly or monthly.  We work closely with AYC and local support services in adopting a recognised referral system to help identify and work with Young Carers and their families.

We believe all children should have the same life opportunities and the right to reach their full potential regardless of responsibilities at home.  We know that supporting children holistically and offering help when needed improves outcomes for our children.  At Knights Enham Junior School we are passionate about making the lives of Young Carers better through a programme of promoting YC’s awareness with children, families and staff.  We offer pastoral support, regular drop in sessions with AYC and promote a strong spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness through our curriculum.  Children accessing YC support share positive influences to fellow YC’s who may need reassurance and kindness.

Because we are dedicated to working with our YC’s we have decided to apply for the Carertrust Bronze Award – Young Carers School Standard.  This award is recognised in England and aims to make it as easy as possible for schools to identify and support Young Carers and awards good practice.
