Year 5

Our classes are as follows:
Edinburgh Class: Mrs Cameron (Class Teacher), Mrs Baker (TA) and Miss Archer (TA)

Highclere Class: Mr McBride (Class Teacher) Mrs Roberts (TA) and Miss Greenhough (HLTA)

Topic:

Geography: The children will be finding out about the major mountains of the world and the UK. They will find out the different ways in which mountains have been formed, and how different features of mountain ranges have been shaped over time. Children will have the opportunity to consider what the weather is like in a mountainous environment and to evaluate the impact that tourism has on a mountainous region.

Science: The children will be investigating the effects of forces such as gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction. They will also look at levers, pulleys and gears.

Home Learning:

All Students will receive weekly home learning sheets, which we encourage this to be completed to support their learning.

Reading

Please read with your child as often as possible at home and record in their home school book which is checked daily. Half-Termly rewards will be provided for the students who continuously read and record it.

Spelling

Children will receive a weekly list of spellings to learn at home. These will be sent home every Thursday, and then checked in school the following week.

PE:

Year 5’s P.E times are as follows:

Tuesday (inside) and Thursday (outside)                                           

We will be continuing with the daily run or movement activities, so please ensure that your child has suitable footwear to participate every day. PE kits will be sent home on a Friday to be washed for return on Monday.

Year 5

We provide a rich, challenging curriculum, which stretches all of our children.
